WOMEN ARTISTS ON TAP THIS MONTH

I had to check myself recently because it’s been probably a year since I’ve mentioned some…shall I say, WAPs. In all seriousness, the last were Treety and ReUpReedy and how their lyrics are elevating bounce music to new spheres while not being categorized as the typical ‘bounce artist’. I’d like to add that a lot of these women nowadays are harder than men. Let’s upgrade the quality of your playlists with the help of some trending artists that I can’t get enough of.

Mahalia makes the type of music perfect for car rides when you’re just chilling, enjoying someone’s company with no where to go fast. Her music reminds me of 2000s rnb music cause it’s so pure and light. Favorite song thus far is “Hide Out”; that sample she uses for the instrumental is gravitational. Going beyond the style of music, she tends to put you in a good mood with her beat choice and demeanor. As someone who tends to stay far away from anything of the rnb genre generally, Mahalia is my go-to and only 22.

Of all the women on the list, I must say Flo Milli is my favorite due to how much potential she has at such a young age. As a Mobile, Alabama native and only 20, she’s representing the South and carrying the torch for the next generation of female rappers very well. With no doubt, we’re in store of her music for years with “Send The Addy”, “19”, and “May I” as the must-listens from Ho, why is you here? released earlier this year. I’m trying to be modest, but the entire album and all her singles are worth a listen plus.

Our next artist on tap, Big Latto aka Queen of the Souf aka Mulatto is probably the most popular of all on the list. She has features with many of the heavy hitters amongst headlining XXL’s Class of 2020 Freshman List. Must I add she had a better verse than everyone in the class (mostly males in attendance). Really soon I think Mulatto is going to be huge, like Cardi B and Nicki Minaj level in a just a few years. Throughout her discography from her beginnings to now, the only difference is the upgrade in her production and beat selection—shawty nice.

New 1017 signees, K Shiday & Enchanting, has me excited for the new direction Gucci Mane is taking with his label. I’m somewhat infatuated with these two right now because their theme is NOT directed toward finessing men. Along with Mulatto and Flo Milli, their content is very energizing and has that comeback appeal to where you can’t just listen to them once. Whether you like it or not, eventually you or someone you know will bring you right back. With “Ball & Lead” and the tracks from So Icy Gang Vol. 1, within a year or two I’d expect much more notoriety as their material thus far has been noteworthy.
