Before long, Doe Boy will be amongst the best hip-hop talents out of Cleveland, Ohio, similar to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Kid Cudi. I’m kicking myself for not listening to Doe Beezy until a few weeks ago; especially discouraging now after learning he’s been affiliated with Future’s FreeBandz label since 2012. After some research, it all started to make sense why I had no clue until maybe 2017, or even 2018. In 2013, Doe Boy was sentenced to a 3 year prison stint and had to regain a following somewhat. Since his release from prison until now, I’d say Doe Boy has done just that while steadily picking up traction heading into 2020. First song you must listen to is “Walk Down ft. YG” (Streetz Need Me 2, 2019) because of how nostalgic and reminiscent of 90s rap it is. The song was refreshing enough to peak my interests; ultimately leading to “Mini Vans” (The Bandprint, 2018). At this point, he’s too underrated for the music he makes while being the second best artist in Freebandz behind only Future and rightfully so.
Doe Boy has a knack for story telling and is a comedian when he’s interested. “6-4” (Streetz Need Me 2, 2019), “Mood” (Codeine Confessions, 2017), and “Real Talk Pt. 2” (Boyz in Da Hood 2, 2017) are perfect examples of how characteristically descriptive and slick his songs are. Based on Apple Music, there are 10 tapes with the most recent being Streetz Need Me 2 released in December. While on the topic of albums, 88 Birdz is a personal standout with TM88 on the boards while executively produced by Young Thug. Thats tough. While I have you Thugger Thugger fans, go back and listen to “Scared” off of So Much Fun for Doe Boy’s verse.
I never put much thought into Cleveland as a potential source of new music before Doe Boy. I’ve been cutting my own blessings short sadly.
