Much love to my brother for introducing me to @BabySmoove_on our latest NOLA escapade. “Blicky” was what grabbed my attention almost immediately with its grittiness and the line in the opening verse, “Louisiana punch I got that fire like I’m Weezy”, briefly brought me to thinking he was from the city. On the contrary, BabySmoove is a Detroit native with ‘Sign Me’ written all over his discography. If I’m posting about an artist, there aren’t many songs I dislike from them, and there are 6 tapes on his SoundCloud right now that are great-listens. Of all the tapes, the favorites are currently I'm Still Serious and Flawlessbecause those two require almost no skipping throughout playback. Nothing is worse than having to search for what to play after each and every song because the corresponding artist only has a handful of decent songs.
If this consistency continues, Smoove should become more of a household name in the near future. He has a great eye for what instrumentals to use when exhibiting emotion and agenda. Rocaine and Michigan Meech are worth every penny spent on their musical production as those two are the architects behind majority of the songs I’ve added to the playlist. In my opinion, rappers perform better when they lock in with a few producers orchestrating their instrumentals, and that is exactly what BabySmoove has done with Meech and Rocaine.
In addition to “GoYard“, priority listens include ”On the Flo” and ”Arrogant” with Smoove sliding through these beats with too much ease. He’s another one who gets straight to the point in his work, and I love that. Not too many double or triple entendres or overly conscientious metaphors used, but the music is tough. Don’t be surprised if Baby Smoove is featured with your favorite rapper in the upcoming months because we’ve all been sleeping while he’s steadily gaining traction. He’s up next out of Detroit and the latest release, Baby, dropped today. Rocaine is at it again on the boards; go listen now.
