BEEN SLEEPING ON SIMMIE HUH, OK

When asked who’s the best rapper/producer from Florida, Yung Simmie is who immediately comes to mind, and that’s biased as all hell, I know. When I see Simmie, I click. If there’s another guy that fits the description from Florida, educate me! As a 27 year old, Yung Simmie is really an OG with more than a decade in with more than 10 tapes. In the early years, he teamed up with Raider Klan amongst SpaceGhostPurrp, Denzel Curry, Nell, etc., which became a huge influence on rap in my opinion. More importantly in 2021; however, I’m here to talk about what he’s been doing independently.

Yung Simmie’s latest project, Shut Up and Vibe III, is another great addition to the trilogy with tracks like Easy, Pt. 2 and 2020, Pt. 2 as they embody the same energy that made the first two tracks so popular. I feel like he brings almost like a normalcy to rap in the sense of how deliberately casual his flow is. There’s no mumbling or autotune; just smooth cadences and unforced lyrics. I guess what I’m trying to say is it looks real easy to him from here.

As a fan, I’m hopeful for a Simmie Season III cause he’d be a sellout for not completing the trilogy after completing Basement Musik. The hierarchy goes Simmie Season > Basement Musik > Shut Up and Vibe! The Simmie Season tapes are full of hits, such as “Shoot the 3”, “Drama Time”, “Underdog”, “Smoke Clouds“, etc. Clearly if you were to ask what to listen to first, Simmie Season I and II is no doubt the answer.

As previously stated, Yung Simmie produces his own music. I’ve included such a playlist—it’s definitely worth you’re consideration. I’ve come to the conclusion he’s wearing multiple hats for his brand: rapper, marketing adviser, producer, owner. Why pay someone to do what you can for yourself, right?

I expect 2021 to be a good year for Yung Simmie with the potential upcoming release of Yung Smokey 2. Just a few days ago, he provided some inconclusive hints towards the release [here]. With the consistency he’s been associated to throughout his career, it goes without saying there will be at least a slough of singles, maybe an album. Anticipating some major collaborations in the near future as well for my boy. If vouching hasn't convinced you, the curated playlist is everything you need to know. Merch?
