We all know the food in New Orleans is extraordinary; that comes with the territory. The restaurants in the city speak for themselves and don’t need me to do anything for them honestly, but here we are. A simple Google search will give you a plethora of options, but it doesn’t really tell you where the gems are located nor is it coming from me. When in the city, these are the top options depending on location, time of day, and traffic. For example, let’s say I’m in Metairie: the move is Bobby Hebert’s of course. There’s no disappointment to be had here guys. In all honesty, it’s a joce. Ever find yourself in the area, please give Bobby Hebert’s some attention. They have this Mardi Gras pasta that’s great along with a 3-6pm happy hour: pull up.
Now if I’m at the house in New Orleans East, I’d probably make a run to Landry’s SeafoodHouse, Castnet Seafood, or Mad Chef. I think the name speaks for itself on the first 2…but anyway! At Castnet, grab 2lb of crawfish and 2lbs of boiled shrimp on me. Landry’s is a sit-down restaurant with more diversity and distinctiveness to their menu that you’ll love. Grab the Shrimp Jambalaya Street Taco from Mad Chef if you’re close to Bullard Ave in Eastern New Orleans! Definitely one of the best tacos I’ve had and it’s black owned! There is no wrong answer here. The decision is all based on the mood you’re in.
On this next one if you’re one of those people who wouldn’t eat food from a gas station, you’ve been sleep and it’s time wake up. Brother’s Food Mart has a franchise throughout the city and the surrounding area so literally all you have to do is need gas at some point. Get. the. chicken…maybe a meat pie too. In the CBD to French Quarters area, catch me at Felipe’s Mexican Taqueria or Dat Dog. Felipe’s was recently found to have a bit of a problem with illegal immigrants making the food; clearly explaining the taste of the food. However, Felipe’s has yet to scar me so they deserve a chance. Dat Dog provides an eclectic blend of seasoning and sausage options with a wide variety of toppings. After a few bites, just for a second you might forget that it’s a hot dog.
I want to emphasize that the restaurants not getting mentioned in detail are unbelievable just like those above. Taking matters further, these are more preferable and the margin is massive depending on who you ask. From my experience, I’ve never met anyone from New Orleans that didn’t like Manchu’s fried chicken. If someone publicly said they didn’t like Manchu, I’m sure most of those who heard it shook their heads in disgust. On the same chord, Chinese Kitchen is regarded as one of the best places to get chinese food in the area. Let me be your guide for where to eat when in NOLA.
